I met Tasha 10 years ago on a work trip to Boise, Idaho. I just knew that when I went there, that I would dread my 5 weeks visiting and would be drowning in potatoes and boredom. It ended up being one of the most memorable experiences I ever had. My best friend’s cousin happened to be going to school at Boise State and introduced me to a group of girls that I would never forget. Tasha was one of those women. She was kind and sweet and we all enjoyed each other so I consider it a blessing to be able to reconnect with her for this date.
Tasha is from Colorado and currently resides in Arizona with her girlfriend. She had to grow up fast in a home where her father wasn’t absent but it was her and mom a lot of the time. She came from a very diverse background which easily answers why she is so good at what she does. She is a very positive person and is that “go to” person for all of her friends when they are in need. She played college basketball and overseas basketball before she’s discovered her personal love for being a basketball coach. Now, although she loved coaching, she didn’t really fancy the lifestyle that came with it. The hustle and bustle of it was making it difficult for her work life balance while also working on her DOCTORATE (in organizational leadership…boss). Tasha expressed that she doesn’t like to lead with the fact that she a bisexual, biracial woman because it perpetuates a cycle of victimization…however, if we keep it real the cards are stacked against her in a lot of way. She is killing it though despite it all.
Now she is a life and mindset coach. She used the experiences she learned through sports to help women increase their joy by using manifestation and positive psychology to harness their own power.
What does your morning routine consist of?
Every time my alarm goes off, I wake up and meditate. When you first start meditating its difficult to silence your mind. It can be challenging and a lot of people give up. If I have time on a Saturday morning, I can meditate for up to 30 minutes but generally I meditate for 10 minutes.
Then I go to the gym because I always feel better after I work out. If I have time, I have this alchemy of self that I read through to remind me of my goals. I have 3 vision boards that have almost completely come true. It reminds me of the character I need to become to accomplish my goals so that way I can keep focused and go about my day.
What is a day of self-care for you?
I am huge on self-care days. A day of self-care for me would be waking up and doing my meditation. I love yoga because it makes me feel like I can be grounded and centered…then I would go to one of my favorite coffee shops and create whatever I want. I would probably go to a movie by myself and then come home, have my tea and then go to bed. Oh and I would write in my journals before bed.
Tasha went on to tell me about how she has 5 different journals. Most of us only have one so I was excited to hear her break this down. She has a journal for money, fear, evidence, celebration, and gratitude that all have a significant purpose in her life. She checks in with all 5 on a daily basis to ensure she stays grateful and grounded. My favorite journal discussed was the one on money. Tasha brought up the point that often we are scared to check in with our money. I don’t know about ya’ll, but there have been plenty of times where I am like “Ill check it on pay day”. That simple fear can be the reason why money doesn’t continue to flow! She said if you continue to avoid money, money will continue to avoid you. I love how all of her journals bring the law of attraction to life and how she is able to leave the day in those books.
If I didn’t have…..I would go crazy.
Hugs! I love hugs…I don’t know you and I am hugging you I don’t care.
What do you love most about yourself?
My energy and my empathy. I have a unique ability where people feel like I am their best friend. I can walk into a room and change a room but to that same effect if I am not feeling good, you can feel that also. I love that people feel comfortable with me and that they are open and vulnerable enough to let me in.
How did you overcome the hard times in your life?
If you see everything as happening for you then it changes your perspective on the negative things. Even if its something that’s bad, there’s a lesson here that I need to learn that’s getting me ready for the next thing. Everything has seasons and everything has cycles. Knowing that in the law of rhythm that everything is temporary, you wont be stuck in this forever…that helps.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell her that she is enough and that she is loved. I grew up in a predominately white neighborhood, needing validation or attention. I felt like whatever was on the outside was proving to people that I was enough. I felt like if I did certain things than people would know how valuable I was.
If you had to leave this earth tomorrow, what would you do?
I would spend time with my girlfriend, she is the most amazing human. Of course I would want to fly to somewhere amazing like Venice or Santorini but we don’t have time for that. So I would just be.
Do you run into any challenges being a bisexual woman in the workplace?
We are really supportive of each other which is one of those things that as you grow, that person that you’re with can only add to your life so having her support is amazing. As a woman in this field, I haven’t personally run into a lot of challenges. I will say knowing statistically that black women get paid far less and that they are the most educated group in America. That bothers me and I take it on as a personal challenge. I see that with pay especially in corporate America.
What does women empowerment mean to you?
Empowerment is such a strong word. For me, it just means that you are awakening the power within. We are caretakers, so we tend to put people before us. Women have been marginalized and minoritized historically so it is this inherent believe that we need someone else or something else to make us better. The more women that are woke to our power can spread it, and share it with other women and this is how we lift each other up.
What do you tell someone that wants to quit?
There’s no winning if you quit. It’s the easy way out…if you want things you never had before you have to do things you’ve never done before. Being an entrepreneur is full of ups and down and is so hard but what’s important is knowing that you won’t quit so eventually you will get there. Whatever it is the only way to get there is to not quit. There is no secret sauce but when you get there, its finally worth it. If you don’t quit you WILL succeed. Grit and resilience is more a determining factor in success than intelligence. Anyone that’s successful is no smarter or better than you, they just didn’t quit.
What made you want to become a coach?
It started because I was sitting at cubicle at a job that I thought I would like but I really hated under florescent light and my creative mind was dying. So I started a blog and I went down this rabbit hole of starting. It kind of morphed from being a creative blog to helping women. Its what I live for.
What is LOVE to you?
It means joy, it means vulnerability, it means support, it means smiles, it means warm and fuzzies, it means comfort. There’s no judgement or limit. It is unconditional.
It was so inspiring to talk to Tasha. I told her while I was talking to her that I was about to hire her my damn self. Being able to re-connect with her was such a treasure. Thanks for the date girl!! Please follow her Instagram @hatertohappy
