As a general introvert, I have been stepping out of my comfort zone and attending concerts and festivals in 2019. You may have remembered the Coachella experience and that challenged my social anxiety in some crazy ways but once that happened, I was ready to move on and slowly work towards “peopling” as a lot of introverts may describe it.
In May of this year I decided to attend my second festival in Hawaii. The first of its kind on the island the “Cabana Music Festival”. It was an incredible experience especially because I was able to step outside of that comfort zone having to be by myself in the VIP section because I don’t play about being close to Jhene Aiko whenever she performs.
I met my GIRL Date here! For this article her name is No5hade. I had to take a second to remember how I initially met her because I had so much tequila that day, but after our conversation it was all clear why I connected with this BOSS lady. I love how women that are total strangers one moment can end up connecting, relating to each other, and giving each other nothing but LOVE and great energy. Her confidence, ambition, and beauty drew me to her and made this interview very inspiring.
No5hade is a Hawaii based artist. She is passionate about writing, poetry, and is a natural creative. Her family is always on the move and she wanted to follow the path of her mother initially, but she didn’t feel fulfilled. So she got into music, and all while in school. A trifecta of deaths in her life, including that of XXXtencion, woke her up and made her realize she needed to follow her dream. She knows the 9-5 life isn’t for her. She is married and trying to cope with her desires to want more despite loving in her relationship. She’s a risk taker though, and a thrill seeker while her husband was more safe and wants to settle.
This happens more often than not where women get into situations where they are in love but unfulfilled in the area of work. No5hade said that it’s been a hard separation but its also been liberating and has allowed her to really pursue her music. It is easy for her but there are challenging aspects of it and she is so willing and ready to learn and perfect her craft.
She put her first mixtape out to XXX song and did it on her computer. It was so much fun hearing how she went from that, to shows, to the album and she’s only going up from here!
Here’s what she had to say….
If I didn’t have…I would go crazy
If I didn’t have music I would go crazy. Music just makes me feel different. I’m not a talkative person and I don’t express my emotions but when I listen to music and create music or writing beats Im a different person. If I didn’t have music I wouldn’t be able to express myself.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
She is already just 26 but wise beyond her years.
I think the advice would be to not try to fit in. Just be yourself. I wanted to be accepted and now I am like fuck all that
What is your Morning routine?
No5hade is in the military so she is used to all that the military pushes for, which is usually early mornings with a lot of exercise but she tries to squeeze in lots of naps to balance out work and music.
Naps are LIFE.
If you had to leave this earth tomorrow what is the one thing you would do?
I would call anybody on my mind and tell them how I feel. Try to give them motivation and tips on life. At the end of the day materialistic stuff doesn’t matter. You gotta speak life into other people
What do you love most about yourself?
I like that I am not judgmental. I am open to anything. You can’t judge people because life is short. Its your life…enjoy it.
What’s a day of self-care look like for you?
First, I would go get a facial, then a massage, and sit my ass in the studio and record Music is Life.
Do you have any issues as a woman in the industry?
75 percent of dudes are trying to talk to you. Its hard when you are trying to get to the next level. One of my songs Money Bagg was a depiction of that. I’m not trying to talk to you!
Now I just tell them I want to do business and they get all angry. I am continuously working on how I am going to navigate through it.
What do you say to someone that wants to quit?
Take a step back, a pause and just think of why you got started in the first place. Things can get so drastic so take a breath, take that nap and figure out why you did it in the first place.
November was my busiest month and I was on the go and I didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere so I took a break and went to LA. As much as I wanted to quit I looked back and said I’ve come so far. Peoples encouragement keeps me going.
What does love mean to you?
Love….so many people use your name in vein (she sang) Love to me is understanding, its fluid, it’s always changing, and it’s hard. But love is definitely being able to understand not just other people but yourself. It’s a lot!
She wants to eventually incorporate fashion and helping others into her work. It really was a pleasure and I look forward to seeing more from No5hade and everything she stands for….
