Jenny and I know each other through our ex’s. I remember when I first met her she was just this big ball of good energy and I can’t say that she’s treated me any different than from the first day I met her. Jenny started out as young Jennifer from Brooklyn New York. She is Puerto Rican/Dominican and has a passion for helping others and music. She told me stories about how she was picked on in high school until she discovered her love for the color pink. From then on, her inner boss was born and has flourished since. At 14, she started wearing pink everyday for almost 10 years and quickly adopted the name “Pinky”. She would tell me during the interview how the color made her happy and made her different in the best ways. Into adulthood after a tough divorce, she detached from her past and Pinky until she realized that she couldn’t run from who she was. It wasn’t long before she came right back to what she loved so much as a girl.
Currently, she still resides in Brooklyn. She’s a LOVEr of her family, a medical assistant, and a social media influencer. I name social media last because although she has a significant footprint in the social media world when you ask her what matters in life, social media is the last thing that she mentions in the line-up as being the key to happiness. Jenny started a You Tube channel before You Tube channels became a movement, and women and men alike have been following her journey for years. As an influencer, she has had opportunities to travel, interview with big names like Lady Foot Locker, support multiple causes for women, and link up with girl bosses everywhere including Rihanna, and a personal favorite of mine MP Frias (follow her too). She also promotes for major brands from around the world. Her goals include working on music, traveling, helping children, and using her platform to make the world better.
Jenny in her Scrubs
Music really makes me feel alive. If I’m having a bad day and then a song that I love comes on, it changes everything… even if you don’t speak the same language music can connect people all over the world.
Being vulnerable and open in the world we live in today is hard and its also brave. I am so ready for ya’ll to see what this bossy woman has to say.
What does women empowerment mean to you?
In the medical field, a lot of the female physician assistants do the work and the males reap all the benefits. It sucks to see that. Some of them get paid more and I see it all the time. Just because you have a different body part doesn’t mean you are more qualified than a woman.
Women empowerment is owning the fact that you are a woman and never being ashamed of that. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone because you know what you are a capable of. Women empowerment is owning who you are…standing up for other woman, and yourself. It is working your ass off knowing that you deserve everything. I am very proud to be a woman because we have overcome a lot.
It also has a bad side though. I have met a few guys that have become so comfortable with how independent we have become and are taking advantage of that. Now that we are demanding more, some of these guys are taking advantage of the fact that we want to be independent. It’s like they feel they don’t have to play their part.
If I didn’t have …I would go insane.
Lip gloss. I need something on my lips. I will put lotion on my lips because I can not deal with dry lips.
If you had to leave this earth tomorrow what would you absolutely have to do?
I would go around telling everyone I love them.
What do you love most about yourself?
I love how I love. Sometimes I get an out of body experience and think about what I have been through and I say damn “you have a big heart”. There are times that I will give people my last dollar. I will miss my train to help older people with their shopping carts.
I went on a detour here because Jenny means that shit. I am obsessed with how amazing she is with her grandma who was diagnosed with throat cancer. If you spend anytime following her she has this unconditional incredible love for her grandmother. I wrote an article recently on how LOVE can help us be our best selves. Jenny is adding time to grandma Rosas life with her vibrant spirit and genuine love. She made me want to call my damn grandma!
God is keeping her around for me. She’s always had my back. I have had people that I thought loved me, hurt me. My grandmother has never hurt me. I moved back into my mom’s house so I can wake up to her and see her smile at me. God put us on this earth to help each other and a lot of us have become selfish.
Seriously how can you not LOVE
What is a day of self-care for Jenny?
Going to get a massage and then going to the movies alone. I like walking around Brooklyn heights because there is a lot of brownstone and beautiful flowers.
Maybe going shopping or if it’s summertime going to the beach, I love the water.
What are the pros and cons of what you do?
Sometimes people assume that all you care about is social media and they think you are vain. Having a lot of followers doesn’t matter. I know a lot of people that are very successful in life that don’t have a lot of followers. Social media can help you, but social media can also start to brainwash you so sometimes I have to get out of the app, take a walk, and take a break.
It also affects my relationships. I won’t post my next relationship as much. A lot of people will get in your relationship and feel like they can talk.
How do we combat the stigmas that are put on women?
I get irritated when I go get my makeup done for fun and guys say you would look so much prettier without all of that…. but I really didn’t ask you. I don’t need you to say that. Its rude.
You don’t have to say everything that comes to mind but make sure everything you say is true.
What do you say to someone who wants to quit?
Do not quit because whenever someone’s about to quit, that’s when it’s about to happen. It’s the enemy testing you to see how bad you want it. You’re never a quitter if you are quitting a bad habit but don’t quit something good. Even in the medical field, a patient will be heading out and as soon as they leave that door they get called. Don’t quit unless it’s a bad habit. Everyone wants everything instant, and that’s not good. Everything takes time.
What advice would you give your 20 year old self?
I would say not to be so hard on myself. When I was 20 I was very insecure but I have always had a really good heart. Enjoy life more.
God is everything. God got me through a lot of things. Everything that you do in life has a bigger purpose. Focus on the positive and turn to God.
What does LOVE mean to you?
Love means that no matter the ups and downs, you always choose to look past all of that and treat the person how you want to be treated always. Never disrespect anyone you love. Sometimes we make mistakes and say things we don’t mean out of anger, but why would you ever want to hurt them?
Interviewing Jenny was fun and heartfelt. I am a baby, but I still get emotional when I listen to our conversation. Ironically, she posted a photo on her Instagram the other day that described my experiences with her perfectly. It said, “Don’t be impressed by money, followers, degrees, and titles. Be impressed by humility, integrity, generosity and kindness.” She has so many qualities beyond a girl boss that made this interview super inspiring.
